Sushi Saturday...

I loved my fortune.... would make a great scrapbook page title!!

Yum, we haven't had sushi for a few weeks.... OK, don't tell the kids, but Matt and I had it on St. Patrick's day, and we thought that was kinda funny when we should have been eating corned beef or something. So, after I blog this, I'm going to get ready to run some errands and get some sushi!!

I'm not really a “sushi” eater, I prefer the California rolls and the maki rolls. Matt will eat the real sushi and sashimi... he got a tuna roll the other day and I tried it... kinda squishy for me. The taste was OK, but I couldn't get past the texture. I'll stick with the California rolls.

I took some pictures to scrap our sushi experience... both my kids like it. They're pretty adventurous eaters. I think if you expose your kids to stuff other than chicken nuggets, they'll eat it.

I'll share the photos here, then I think I'll scrap them... first I need a light magenta ink cartridge, then I can print photos again.

Have a scrappy Saturday!!

Yummy Scrappy Goodness

OK, my last post was soooo boring. Someone slap me upside the head please. I must have been in mom mode or something... phew. So, I promise not to do that anymore... how boring can I be? YIKES.

Instead, I thought I’d share a snapshot of the coolest stamp store in town here - it's called Art Tech. At first, they just had art supplies and supplies for graphic designers, then they had some stamps, but now it's like the scrappy stuff is taking over the store!!

Here’s a peek of yummy stamps:

And here's some of the inks and then if you look towards the back that's where the paper starts:

I go here about once a week. I'm pretty spoiled. I've got this place, another little LSS, then there's a big LSS called the Crop Shop, and it's very nice, too. Plus Mike's & Jo's... speaking of which, here's some scrappy goodness I got at Mikes. I already have the paper pack, and a few other things that go with the Chelsea line, so I had some coupons and added to the collection:

And, OMG, Target got new scrappy stuff in, YUMMY!! Got some MM Noteworthy stuff, and some MM chipboard that matches the Noteworthy stuff pretty good.

I just love this butterfly. And the red butterfly and other red chipboard pieces will go really well with the monthly kit I got over at Coordinates Collections:

And that's all I got for you today. ;-)

Typesetting Rules....

I know, they say rules were made to be broken, but, there is one typesetting rule that really, really shouldn't be broken.... and here it is.... it's the rule for typesetting paragraphs, body copy, text ~ whatever you want to call it. The rule is this, your sentence should not be longer than one alphabet, plus half, so that would be 26+13 = 39. So, if you are around 39 characters a sentence, it's OK, it's readable... anything longer than that, then your eye has trouble following the line to the next sentence, and the reader loses track of where he/she was. A little longer is OK, I'd go as far as 60 characters, but if you start hitting 100, that's too much. Shorter is OK. But, not too short or your eyeballs will appear as if they're following around a ping-pong ball!

I notice that some people do this with their journaling and it truly drives me bonkers! They'll have a journaling block that expands the entire width of their 12 inch page.... and this is ok, if the journaling is typeset with a point size that is big, otherwise, if you are typing with 12 point and you are getting 120 characters going in one sentence, you really should break that into 2 columns.... it's just easier for the end reader to read.

(my source for the above picture was http://desktoppub.about.com/library/nosearch/bl-linelength.htm)

Another thing that drives me crazy.... now that I'm on my soapbox (LOL!) is when you are typesetting a title and it's a script font and you use all caps! OMG, that is just like a stabbing knife to my eyeballs! Seriously. Script fonts (cursive) were not meant to be used in all caps, nope, nada, never. It just looks bad, and very hard to read. You do want people to read what you wrote, so make it easy on the eye.

Oh, and while I'm at it, let me just say, and I may have mentioned this before because it's one of my biggest pet peeves, especially if you consider yourself any kind of designer, graphic designer especially, and here they are using inch and foot marks instead of quote marks! Drives me nuts! This is an inch " this is a quote ” mark. See the difference? One is straight, the other curly.

Now, you will notice that while I typed this that it is riddled with foot marks ( ' ) however, I'm typing fast and this is a blog not a brochure, so it's OK on the web. ;-)

Enough about work... I wish I could share with you some of the stuff I've been doing lately, however, I've submitted it! All of it! Wish me luck.

Ahhh...Growing up in the 70's

I actually hated the clothes in the 70's, when it was the 70's... the plaid polyester pants - OMG. My mom had this killer outfit, tho, it had a white halter top with matching white wide legged pants and she wore it with these corked wedged shoes... she looked hot in it! I was about 7 or 8 at the time.

Anyway, got this email today, and I thought I'd share some of these pictures... just too funny.

Here's a picture of Donny and Marie Osmond dolls that I got for Christmas when I was 10... LOL, and I still have them!

Here's Leif Garret on the cover of Tiger Beat... him, Sean Cassidy and Andy Gibb were my favorites!!

I'm just ROFL at these, totally takes me back like 30 years. Oh, and these shoes, had to have these shoes:

Yep, those and moon shoes!

And here we have the Smash up Derby Cars! My little brother had these!!

Have a "GROOVY DAY"!

NEW BLOG HEADER....

What do you think? My other one was gray and boring.... very blah... what was I thinking? This one is much happier and springy! I can't wait for spring. (sigh)

Got some GREAT news!

The Design Team I'm on for Crystal's {digi} Design Templates is finally ready to launch tomorrow! Yeah! After working for months to get it going, I'm so excited for her. She is very talented and creative.

Here's the site

On another note, I have some other exciting news to share... but, I'm going to save that for another blog! hehehehe, so mean of me. I'm so excited, tho. And, it's on my goals list, so, I guess I can check that one off!

I'll share a new layout that I just did using one of Crystal's templates and a digi kit she gave to the DT members. Love the kit!

Favorite Chocolate Cake

This cake IS NOT for weight watchers, those on Weight Watchers, or anyone counting calories! But, OMG is it awesome. I had my DH make it for me for my 40th birthday (that still sounds weird to me!)

I posted a thread on the NSBR side of Creating Keepsakes about sweets... do you buy store bought, or do you make homemade, or do you do the halfway thing and buy a mix? I do all of the above! LOL! I do have to say, tho, there is a limited amount of Oreo's or packaged cookies like that - that come into my house. Usually I'll buy the Newman's version of Oreo's... none of that hydrogenated fat. Otherwise, if it's store bought, it's usually from the store bakery.

So, back to the cake... I posted a photo to entice the ladies on this decadent cake! This is why we only eat it once or twice a year. It's like eating a truffle. It's quite time consuming, but totally worth it!

Here's the cake my DH made for me:

And, here's the link to the recipe. Enjoy!!

21 Day Challenge

I decided to take up the 21 day challenge over at Two Peas in a Bucket. The reason is simple... not to be creative, not to do the creative stuff, I love doing that... but, it's for something I hate.... trying to lose weight. (insert eye roll here) So, I thought that if I did this for 21 days, I might lose a pound or two (or 20) and get ready for our trip to Disney. I'd also like to eat better and exercise, drink more water, yada, yada, yada... we all know how to do it, we just need a kick in the pants to get off our butts and do it! So, I know me, and when I join something, like Big Picture Scrapbooking's LOAD, I did it. So, I'm thinking that I can do this for 21 days, which will really be 19 since I just discovered it today, but, that's OK. Better late than never, right?

So, here's the journal, I did it digitally, since that's quicker for me, rather than pasting it and either scanning or taking a photo of it. This journal isn't for the pretty part, it's going to be a working journal, one where I can track my water, exercise and food intake. No more cake for me. :-(

Each day Rhonna gives a quote, and I stick it at the top for some inspiration. I'm going to leave it on my desktop all day. I did the picture work in photoshop, but all the journaling is in my design program - Adobe InDesign. It's much easier to set up type in there.

All Better

After yesterdays ordeal... today was much more pleasant. The vet called at 8 and said that Sophie did fine. They were calling her “Miss Sophie” the whole time... too cute. After her shot for vomiting, she didn't throw up any more. They gave her an IV all night, and we picked her up around 10:30 am. She's doing fine, and I boiled her some hamburger and rice, but only gave her 1/2 a cup. She's kept it down. Yeah! I'm so happy. The vet bill was under $500, but more than 200, but totally worth it! I'm going to make Dr. Stas the cutest Thank You card that he ever did see!

And, I thought that the ordeal deserved to be scrapped. ;-)
